RETRAIN MY BRAIN a basic tool kit for living with brain injury
Retrain My Brain is a system developed by people living with brain injuries for people living with brain injuries to learn about the brain, their injury and how to integrate strategies to retrain the brain while living with a brain injury. A facilitator's guide is also included to assist individuals to use Retrain My Brain as the structure and focus of support group meetings. The Brain Injury Advisory Council is committed to working with our brain injury partners to develop support groups in communities through out the state. Peer support can be a crucial part of learning, living with and accepting your "new normal", a life with brain injury. For more information on the location, dates and times of support groups in your area please contact the Brain Injury Advisory Council at 505.476.7328 or by email elizabeth.peterson@state.nm.us

Until there is a cure for brain injury, prevention is our only option. We know that helmets
save lives. We also know that getting young people to wear them is a challenge. With the help
of Helmutt the Helmet Safety Dog children and adults are introduced to helmet use in an
engaging activity book that promotes when to wear a helmet and how to fit a helmet properly.
The Brain Injury Advisory Council is currently engaged in distributing helmets targeting pre
kindergarten and Head Start programs in communities throughout the state. As funding permits,
the council is committed to fitting as many helmets on children's heads and facilitating
activities with children, teachers and families to teach them about helmet use and preventing
brain injuries. This year 1400 helmets have been distributed by council members in their
communities from Shiprock to Roswell, Las Cruces, Valencia County, Jemez Pueblo, Moriarty and
Mora and points in between. If you would like more information about this project or to work
with the council and your community to increase public awareness and helmet use please contact
